I’m trying something new this year and that is to present my favorite photos of the year just past. Here they are, in the sequence of image capture during 2017. Of course, you can view these and other images at CedBennett.Photography at any time (and, if you do, you have the option to view them much larger which often reveals a richer, more detailed image).
There are three images from Point Reyes National Seashore on the coast of California, just a bit north of San Francisco.
The first is the photo at the top of this post of the historic “Chief’s House” on Drakes Bay which is just visible over the edge of the Headlands at Point Reyes National Seashore. The other two are below:
Rain is rapidly approaching as the sun shines through breaks in the clouds and lights up parts of the Headlands at Point Reyes National Seashore. You can just make out the original Point Reyes lighthouse on the edge of the furthest ridge about a third of the way up.Morning sunrays breaking through the clouds over the old Fish Docks on Drakes Bay at Point Reyes National Seashore (BW).
The two photos below are from the Columbia River area in the northwestern United States.
Along much of its length, the Columbia River separates the states of Washington and Oregon. Both sides of the Columbia, as well as the river itself, are major commerce corridors all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Here we see the sunrise over the Columbia River Gorge near Stevenson, Washington.Early morning rain, followed by mist and clouds, greets the rising sun over the Columbia River near Portland, Oregon.
The following two images were captured from a West Maui beach near the northern edge of the island.
An early morning full moon lights up the sea and sky as it begins to set over the island of Lanai.As the sun begins to light up the island of Lanai, a lone paddle-boarder sets out from Maui.
These two images are from Lake Tahoe, which is in both California and Nevada.
Taken from the California side of the lake looking toward Nevada in the distance, Emerald Bay appears almost glass-like while the morning “blue hour” gives way to sunrise at Lake Tahoe.This is an ‘up close and personal’ view of Eagle Falls on the California side of Lake Tahoe just after sunrise.
And finally, here are two photos from Sedona, Arizona.
Sunset lights up Twin Buttes as seen from from Phone Trail near Courthouse Vista, Sedona, AZA full moon rises in the east above the red rocks of Sedona just as the sun has set in the west.

Wow, Ced. That dawn picture taken from Emerald Bay is too wonderful! The colors mesmerize me. And I love the one of the Columbia River and the train. To me, it looks like a fine painting, very classic. Thank you for sharing these!
